Vancouver, BC (January 17, 2012): It's been one week since the 231 restaurants participating in Tourism Vancouver's 2012 Dine Out Vancouver Festival were named and their prix fixe menus revealed. Now, with Dine Out's official kickoff just days away, consumers are encouraged to make reservations for restaurants, events and hotel stays before their top choices are sold out.

This year, Vancouver celebrates a decade of Dine Out with all the ingredients required for a world-class culinary festival. Throughout the 17 days of the festival (January 20 to February 5), diners can whip up a unique and memorable Dine Out experience by choosing from more than 70 events, tours and activities, with at least one event taking place every day. Like a truly memorable meal, the best course of action is to browse the menu - in this case, Tourism Vancouver's interactive Dine Out calendar - then sample widely and savour every experience. Events hot off the grill for 2012 include:

  • Plated & Paired at the Public Market, the festival's sold-out kickoff event;
  • Street Food City, involving several of Vancouver's top food carts uniting at the Vancouver Art Gallery plaza so diners can experience the city's burgeoning street food scene;
  • Salt and Pepper, a new category of "condimentary" events featuring salsa dancing, oyster shucking, butchery demonstrations and more.

Combined with classic Dine Out events of past years, including Kronenbourg 1664's Brasserie Mystère; Act I, Eat 1 dinner-and-a-play pairings; the hush-hush Secret Supper Soirée; and Dine Academy's culinary tours, classes and tastings, this year's new events are sure to add a tangy zip to your Dine Out experience. In fact, with so much to do, diners may want to sample from each of Dine Out's event categories - after all, variety is the spice of life!

"I'm so pleased with the great response we've been getting from locals and visitors as Dine Out Vancouver approaches," said Lucas Pavan, festival coordinator. "Several events are already sold out, and reservations for restaurants and hotel packages are filling up fast. Every year during Dine Out, I'm reminded that Vancouver is a culinary city at heart, and I'm so proud of how far we've come in the last decade."
