In a recent survey of past clients conducted by the BestCities Global Alliance, almost 100 percent of respondents reported that their expectations were either matched or exceeded by the BestCities partner destination they worked with in the bidding, planning and execution of their event.
During the year-long survey process, BestCities contacted more than 200 clients who had made bids to hold association meetings, or had already held a meeting, in a BestCities destination for that year. The clients were questioned about their satisfaction with site inspections; usefulness of information provided; response time to requests; assistance with identifying destination options; preparation of bid documentation; and assistance with making bid presentations.
The responses were overwhelmingly positive. Ninety-seven percent of respondents reported that their expectations of the host city were either matched or exceeded, and 82 percent felt that the attendance level at their congress was either “as expected” or “above expectations.”
The average score for meeting planners who would recommend BestCities Global Alliance destinations to their colleagues was 8.6 (on a scale of one to 10) and the overall experience with a BestCities bureau was rated 9.18. Partner destinations were rated highly across the board in areas ranging from transport considerations to the range of services and activities, as well as generic factors like cleanliness and safety. The overall alliance destination score was 8.91 against the 12 areas surveyed.
Both the alliance’s attendance boosting record and the attractiveness of BestCities destinations contribute to client satisfaction in working with BestCities convention bureaus year after year.
Richard Yore, director of Sales, Meetings & Conventions for Tourism Vancouver, noted that the survey helps to reinforce the success of the BestCities formula for excellence in meetings management. “Vancouver is proud to be a founding member of BestCities, and these survey results provide tangible and continued evidence that our city is among the world’s best in delivering outstanding service to meeting and association clients,” he said.
BestCities is the world’s only alliance of certified convention bureaus, whose eight partner bureaus include Vancouver, Cape Town, Copenhagen, Dubai, Edinburgh, Melbourne, San Juan and Singapore. BestCities’ main objective is to deliver the highest levels of service, expertise and quality standards to meeting planners. It is the first global alliance to put in place a certification program – with standards certified by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) - to ensure a consistent level of convention bureau service excellence from all partner cities.
