AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED FOR DINE OUT VANCOUVER 2011

After tallying the votes, the results of the Dine Out Vancouver 2011 Best Bite Awards are in and Tourism Vancouver is proud to announce the following honourees.

Best $18 Dine Out Vancouver menu: Rocky Mountain Flatbread Co.
Best $28 Dine Out Vancouver menu: Hapa Izakaya
Best $38 Dine Out Vancouver menu: (tie) Provence Mediterranean Grill and Kitsilano Daily Kitchen
Best Service: Hart House Restaurant
Best BC VQA Wine Pairing: DB Bistro Moderne
Best overall Dine Out Vancouver experience: Provence Mediterranean Grill

Tourism Vancouver’s ninth annual Dine Out Vancouver (January 24 - February 6) saw tens of thousands of local and visiting foodies take advantage of dining deals at 215 restaurants across the city, and enjoy a smorgasbord of unique culinary experiences and hotel offers.

The Best Bite Awards were started in 2008 to recognize the top Dine Out Vancouver restaurants, as chosen by consumers. This year, 1,800 diners rated their experiences online at tourismvancouver.com/dov. Voters were asked to give the restaurant a score out of five in each of the six categories. The winning restaurants were chosen based on the average score achieved in each category.

Vancouver’s Pierre Gauthier won Dine Out Vancouver’s highly coveted Dine Out for a Year Contest. Mr. Gauthier, who dined at Provence Marinaside during the promotion, rated his experience online and was the lucky winner drawn from the Best Bite Award entrants. Mr. Gauthier has won 52 restaurant gift certificates, enabling him to dine out every week for a year!

According to Rick Antonson, Tourism Vancouver’s president and CEO, this year’s Dine Out Vancouver  was among the most dynamic in the event’s nine year history. “We added a number of new components to Dine Out Vancouver this year and were thrilled by how the festival was received by the public and local culinary industry. We hope to continue to grow Dine Out Vancouver and are already planning next year’s 10th anniversary festival.”

Dine Out Vancouver 2011 boasted a record-setting 215 participating restaurants, each offering a three-course menu at one of $18, $28 or $38 price points. Hundreds also participated in a variety of culinary themed events ranging from cooking classes as part of Dine Academy, to a blindfolded Dinner in the Dark, to a dinner-theatre experience with Act I, Eat 1. The popular Secret Supper Soiree whisked participants between mystery dining venues on a Vancouver Trolley. In addition, two special events, The Inside Taste, benefitting Ocean Wise, and Kronenbourg 1664’s Brasserie Mystère, formed perfect bookends to this year’s extraordinarily successful promotion.
