Invite the World, a new online campaign, entices Vancouverites to show their civic pride by sending personalized, virtual postcards to their friends and family, inspiring them to visit Vancouver.
At InviteTheWorld.com, users can build their own virtual postcard by selecting from a library of Vancouver images, (or uploading their own) and adding personal text. Then, with the click of a few buttons, they can have their postcard emailed, shared on Facebook or - for old times’ sake - printed, stamped and mailed to their recipient, anywhere in the world, all completely free of charge.
With every postcard sent, Vancouverites have the chance to win one of eight weekly prizes. Their postcard also places them in the draw for the grand prize of a Vancouver vacation for four friends (flights and hotel included), plus shopping and dining gift certificates. The prize also includes $3,000 in cash, which the winner can use to entertain their visitors… or keep for themself.
This campaign is the result of a common desire among a group of partners to promote Vancouver from within. Coordinated by Tourism Vancouver, partners include local companies such as lululemon, Telus, the Vancouver Hotel Destination Association, the Canadian Tourism Commission, Vancouver Airport Authority and the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association. This group first convened in the days after the Stanley Cup riot and have continued to engage in the celebration of civic pride in Vancouver.
Olga Ilich, co-chair, Vancouver Brand Team
“Vancouverites are passionate about their town, and this new website makes sharing that passion easy, interactive and fun.”
Candice Gibson, manager, Consumer Marketing, Tourism Vancouver “Many may recall earlier versions of Invite the World dating back to its original incarnation for Expo ‘86, before postcards became digital. This time the project is almost exclusively online and designed to engage users through a variety of means including social media.”
Anne Murray, vice president, Community & Environmental Affairs, Vancouver Airport Authority
“As the first and last impression for many people visiting our city, YVR is excited not only to support Invite the World as a partner, but also as a venue for the Invite the World street team who will soon be out with iPads encouraging people to send postcards on the spot.”
Eric Petersen, director of Community, lululemon
“lululemon is very much a part of the fabric of this city….it's only fitting that we support the city that defines us. Vancouver inspires everything we do and we want to share that with the world and invite them here.”
Marion Harper-Treskin, board chair, Vancouver Hotel Destination Association
“In the hotel community, inviting the world is our business, but promoting what is great about a destination is most effective when it comes from within…by the people who live and work here, and are proud of the city they call home.
